Why sewage gases come out the drains at night time?
In the house I live in there are sewage gases coming out from the drains at night time. “Googling” for the solution showed this to be a quite common problem and confirmed what I already knew; easiest solution is to be sure the drain traps are always filled with water to block the gases backing up from the sewage. However I wonder why these gases tend to show up mostly during night time. I guess it has to do with temperature changes in the sewage system? Someone can explain this smelly mistery?

Do you rent? If so, the landlord needs to take care of this. Sewer gasses are detrimental to the health. If, after you let the landlord know, they won’t fix it, you can do one of two things. You can call the county health dept. Or you can withhold your rent in an escrow account until it gets fixed. You cannot just hold back rent without putting it in an account. You could get sued for that. As long as the money is there for the rent when the problem gets fixed, it’s all good.
This should not happen at all. It is likely that there is a problem with your drain/waste/vent or lack of. Venting allows air to move through the drains as water goes down it (you can see dwv pipes on rooftops). Without venting the water in your p traps gets sucked down leaving them open for sewer gas to flow through. Look at all your drains and see if traps are not installed, (a drain going straight down for instance). Indoor vents are available for a few dollars.
The sewage gases are produced by the decomposition of solid waste within the sewer pipes. Since we use the toilets mostly in the daytime and flushes away mostly every time hence the solid matter supply in pipes keeps on refreshing and only in the night this waste gets time to stay at one place without much of flushing water to replace and thus the smell come out only at the night. And it leaks from every possible joint, maybe pipe connections, Manholes or even the pots with leaky “S” or “P” traps which retains a water seal to restrict smell from the pipes to come to our toilets.
