You might think of telephoning your plumber if sewerage is backing into your shower, toilets or bath tub. This sewerage will contain microbes so it should be cleaned at once and your plumbing system should be repaired so as to prevent it from happening again.
As you wait for the plumbers to reach your location, start sanitising the affected area with a mixture of bleaching agent and water with a ratio of one cup to five Imperial gallons respectively. While doing so, don’t forget to wear eye wear, boots, gloves and long trousers, older people, pets and kids should be kept away. Use clean warm water and soap to wash your hands once you have finished. You can decrease the flow of water into your drain to reduce your sewerage leakage problem while you are waiting for a repair.

You can use a plumbers snake if the sewage back up is in shower area. Ideally a 25 feet drainage snake should be used. It will move more easily through the line. Sometimes a toilet in the bathroom is quite clear while the shower in the same area has gotten clogged. That is likely to happen because the shower drain is at flooring level, whereas the toilet trap is located about six inches higher.
Call a professional plumber or drainpipes contractor if you are unable to clear the back up yourself. Plumbers will be able to find the choke and clear the backup thoroughly as they have specialist tools and experience in this problem. In fact it is always better to take professional help especially when you don’t know much about plumbing as you could damage your drains pipes if you start poking about inside them with home made tools.
