Tertiary sewage treatment options

When considering Tertiary sewage treatment options the following thought process recently published will be of use.

• Purpose: To raise effluent’s quality to the standard required before it is discharged

• Chlorination – disinfection tank: Chlorine is introduced in the tank in gaseous state killing bacteria, viruses and organic contaminants.

• Polishing Filters: Filtration removes phosphates and nitrates by specialized filters, which neutralise these substances.

• Sludge Drying Beds: The remaining sludge is left to dry so that can be easily disposed in a landfill or used as fertiliser to improve agriculture.

• The treated water can be discharged into surface water such as in the sea or in lakes since is toxic free and has an average level of biological oxygen demand. It can be also used to water plants which are fruitless and certainly not vegetables

Obviously this has to be fitted to your own sewage problem.
