Sewer lateral repair – how long will I be without water?

sewer repair

My sewer lateral is being dug up tomorrow (25′ from the curb toward the house)… I was told the repair would take a couple of days. Does this normally take two days? Or longer? And does this mean I cannot flush the toilet for two days?? Thanks!!

Hard to say without knowing what all they are doing. I do know that the last renovation project I worked on, the lateral line got busted for different buildings several times and it only took them about 4-6 hours to repair. But here in Florida, it takes a lot less effort to dig it up and it’s not down nearly as deep as places up north. Sounds to me like it would be a good time to take a couple of days off on holiday and take a trip. Good luck.

It is a reasonable estimate, if they are doing a complete replacement. The bad news, no you will not be able to flush, they may even shut off the water supply to the home entirely when performing the work :(
