How do you connect a cast iron sewer line to a fallen PVC sewer line?

sewer line

We had the misfortune of our sewer line disconnecting and causing a back-up into our basement. The disconnect is less than 2 feet below the surface and all we need to do is connect the settled (fallen) PVC pipe back onto our Cast Iron Pipe. RotoRooter wants to charge us $1500, which I think is insane, I think we can do this ourselves. Any advice on what we need to buy for the connection?

you can go to Lowe’s or Home Depot and buy a rubber dresser coupling, you will need to measure the outside diameter of your existing pipe, they are normally 3 or 4 inch and will have 2 to 4 hose clamps with them.
install the hardest side first, secure the clamps, and pull them together and slip the other pipe in the rubber sleeve, tighten those clamps, and your done.

You probably need two (maybe one may work) no-hub coupling(s) or coupler(s) (print image for plumbing supply) and maybe a short length same size pvc pipe connect to the short length sticking out of cast iron hub and the other end to the existing pvc.

If the ends of the two pipes are within an inch of each other, purchase a No-hub coupling (name brand). Make sure you tell the person selling it to you that it is for connecting PVC to cast iron. They come in different sizes.
