sewage pipe

We have a hole in the sewage line that is in the basement, the pipe is visible because the house is older, the hole is wrapped with duct tape. We were told that it would cost about $500.-700.’s to fix, however because it looks like it’s just a cap pipe that needs replacement we were wondering if we could fix this ourselves. P.S this hole was done when the previous owners were trying to snake the lines.

I would guess hard to see the hole from here I’ve used quikset concrete on Terra cotta or clay pipe they do sell wraps and clamps for repair of existing pipes. About anything is better than duct tape. I might try something like that before I went for replacing a whole section.

You can fix it yourself. Get a new cap at your local hardware store and install it. You could also fill this hole with caulking if you so choose.

FYI. You own, and are responsible for, water and sewer lines to the property line.

This is the sewage pipe… the sewage pipe. This might be worth biting the bullet. Head over to your local Home Depot or Lows or something and study up on it to get real info and assess total cost. I’m not a plumber, but if all we’re talking about is exchanging a pipe, $500 seems like a lot.

In reality one hole is just the start. The system is old and needs to be replaced. If your budget does not allow for that at the moment you could cut the section out and replace it with PVC and two rubber sleeve clamps.Cutting it out could cause even more damage if the pipe is that bad.
