Has anyone ever heard of flushing yeast down the toilet to help eat away at the sewage in a sewage tank?
Our tank is emptied once a year. I heard that flushing yeast down the toilet helps so that there is less crap. have you heard this before??
A man who emptied sewer tanks with his trunk mentioned it to my stepdad. That’s where I heard it.

No, where did you hear it ?
Yup my mother and grandmother used to do it all the time. But first they mixed it with warm water to get those little buggies going, then they dumped it.
Anarobic bacteria loves it down there. In fact it’s the anarobic bacteria that breaks down the solid matter, which in turn turns it into liquid and gas (why you need p-traps). After the solid is broken down into liquid it’s then sent to leech field.
Soap, grease and animal fat can kill the bacteria which will help clog your septic tank and that puts the sewage suckers to work. While the yeast solution and a myrid of other commercial products will replinish the little beasties, which should help with the sludge problem and keep the suckers at bay for a longer period of time.
