To use the plunger the overflow drain pipe should be covered first with the help of a wet cloth, this will make the suction stronger and make it harder for air to enter the pipes. Then put the plunger over the drainpipe mouth and press it up and down repeatedly. Hopefully, after doing this and once the plunger is taken away, any water should flow freely down the drainpipe as the vacuum created dislodged the blockage.
If the plunger method fails to properly unclog your drainpipe, you may have to resort to using chemical drain cleaner. Chemicals used in these cleaners are toxic and are to be used only when all else fails as they can affect your sanitary fixtures and pose a health risk.
