Blocked sewers clues for the unlucky

This has happened to all of us – the water fast submerging our toes while are taking a shower. It’s definitely not a very good feeling! A clogged up drain sounds horrible to begin with. Or you’re in front of the toilet sink, brushing your teeth and before you know it – the sink is halfway full. Stopped drainage are not only a major nuisance for household work; they are also unhygienic health hazards. However it is something that every household has to deal with, sooner or later. The best course of action for you is to be prepared to deal with it by learning how to unblock bathroom drains.

Why do drainage get choked?.

Most often, when the dirt, sand and debris that we wash off from our bodies combines with the hair that we shed in a bath, all those entangled clumps accumulate within and eventually block the drain pipe. The problem is further exacerbated when household products such as soaps, detergents, shampoos and conditioners and others are allowed to build up on the growing accumulation. When the accumulation reaches a level of thickness that constrains the free movement of water, the problem is pointed out as blocked drainpipe. If the water has started building up quickly in your tub or sink, then without delay you should unblock the drainpipe.

How to unblock Your drainage.

Here are a few things that you can do to clean your blocked bathroom drain and get the water running. The first thing that you need to do is to remove the stopper of your sink or bath drain. In case of a bathroom sink, the plug can be removed easily with a simple pull or it might need the complex effort of unlocking the hook keeping it in place from under the sink. With respect to the bath, the screws have to be loosened to remove the stopper or the overflow plate has to be dismantled.

The accumulated matter choking up your drain may be clearly visible when you have taken off the stopper. It will most certainly appear like a collection of hair and other particles covered with slimy material inside the drainpipe’s piping. Clear out as much of the blockage as possible. If it is difficult to reach the area where the blockage is located, or difficult to grasp the mass, simply use a bent wire clothes hanger to help you do the job. Your drain is likely to get unclogged if you remove the soap scum, hair and other particles from it that you can see.

If, after exposing the drainpipe, you observe that the blockage is not close enough for removal with the wire you have, then you will need to find another way. A very useful tool is a drainpipe plunger which can eradicate those blockages that are too deep to reach. To use the plunger the overflow drain pipe should be covered first with the help of a wet cloth, this will make the suction stronger and make it harder for air to enter the pipes. Then put the plunger over the drainpipe mouth and press it up and down repeatedly. Hopefully, after doing this and once the plunger is taken away, any water should flow freely down the drainpipe as the vacuum created dislodged the blockage.

If the plunger method fails to properly unclog your drainpipe, you may have to resort to using chemical drain cleaner. Chemicals used in these cleaners are toxic and are to be used only when all else fails as they can affect your sanitary fixtures and pose a health risk.

Call in the drains Professionals.

If all the do-it-yourself methods fail, then call a plumber experienced in drains work to do the needful. A professional plumber should quickly solve your problem with his special tools and equipment. Although availing plumber services can be a costly proposition it gives you the much needed peace of mind as the water starts flowing and the mess is cleaned up.
